In addition to a select group of fine art photographers, Cloutman Creative Studio also represents the work of William H. Cloutman, a New England based plein air painter and father to our founder.
William H. Cloutman (often known more casually as "Bill") was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts in 1944. He attended Vesper George School of Art in Boston, where he studied under noted artists Robert Douglas Hunter and Don Stone.
Following his studies at Vesper George, Cloutman enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Photographers' Mate on the aircraft carrier Franklin D. Roosevelt during the Vietnam War. Upon discharge from the Navy, he went on to a celebrated career in advertising as an art director and creative director.
Pursuing his passion for plein air painting (in the tradition of the Boston School of painters before him), Cloutman left the commercial advertising world and returned to his life in the fine arts. Known for his love of New England, Bill can often be found setting up his easel on the roadside or waterfront in search of his next painting. Always approachable and always ready for a good conversation with friends or strangers, passersby are welcome.
